swanky chic

Modern luxury, local flavor, and mid century-swank? Uhmmm… yes, please. Love, love this place. We needed to go to Dallas Market last weekend and being that we are both fond of the hotel/motel sort of thing (this one is another good one), The Belmont Hotel is where we chose to stay and I’m so glad we did!

The Belmont Motor Hotel was built in 1946 and designed by famed architect, Charles Stevens Dilbeck. Dilbeck took his inspiration from similar motor court hotels that had been successful in California, accenting a series of Moderne structures with Colonial-style details. The hotel is an interesting example of Art Moderne design – with emphasis on horizontal lines, rounded corners and stucco facades. Roughly 8,000 cubic yards of earth and rock were moved to sculpt the cliff site to allow guests unobstructed views of the Dallas skyline. It was also was one of the first hotels to offer year round air-conditioning. Reopened in 2005, the restored 68-room Belmont Hotel sits high on a bluff in the North Oak Cliff district and boasts four bungalow-style buildings, urban gardens, heated pool and the spectacular views of the skyline.

Watching the sunset from the terrace at BarBelmont, protein loading at Smoke and a nightcap at the pool overlooking the city provided for the perfect enjoyment before a very busy day perusing the holiday collections. I can’t wait for the next Market…
